Some things have changed since 1967, like the minimum wage and gas prices, but one thing has not changed — for 50 years, Lincoln Land Community College has been serving our communities. It is a milestone that is possible because of visionaries, board members, faculty, staff, students and community members who believed in the college’s mission and its potential.
Lincoln Land Community College was founded in February 1967. The college’s first classes were held in the fall of 1968 at a temporary campus of metal buildings near I-72 and 6th Street in Springfield, moving to the main Springfield campus in 1974.
The vision, tenacity and hard work of our founders 50 years ago continue in quality, affordable and accessible education for the citizens of our district. We now have provided college credit to almost 302,000 individuals!
We are ever grateful for the generosity of community friends who believe that Lincoln Land Community College is worthy of their investment.
Our storied history begins and ends with the outstanding achievements of students. Because our focus is helping every student succeed, our current Grow Beyond endowment campaign is critical. These funds meet the greatest needs, whether a student is pursuing an associate degree or certificate to transfer to a four-year institution, or training for a new career.
Not only do funds from our endowment campaign support vital needs, they are very much appreciated by the recipients. Of students enrolled, 80% say they would enroll in LLCC again, and 73% say LLCC was their first choice in a college.
I ask that you consider linking your name to the college’s future by giving to Grow Beyond. A new steppingSTONES opportunity available to honor your gift. Click here to learn more. The opportunities your philanthropy will make in the lives of our students are boundless. Thank you for your support!
